How overtime is calculated

Overtime pay = overtime hours × hourly rate × multiplier (usually 1.5, sometimes 2). In the US, the federal FLSA sets the threshold at 40 hours per week; California also uses a daily threshold of 8 hours. Shift differentials add a flat dollar amount per hour for night, weekend, or holiday work. Enter your hourly rate, total hours, the overtime threshold and the multiplier; the calculator shows regular, overtime and gross pay.
